Here at Horton’s Farm growing natural chemical free food is our priority. We only use natural fertilizers and amendments such as compost, manure, bone meal, wood ash, and peat moss.
Water
Being in southern Arizona, water is a precious commodity. We use drip tape on all our irrigation, we water after the sun goes down, and we use mulch to help conserve water.
Bugs and Pest
If you grow it, they will come. We do our best to attract good insects to help combat the bad insects. We grow flowers and cover crops around and in our garden. This attracts pollinators and predator insects like bees, wasp, ladybugs, and praying mantis. We spray with compost tea to help the plants fight off the effect of insect damage but this doesn’t always work. Sometimes we need some natural pesticides like Neem tree oil, Diatomaceous Earth, and Castile soaps. On rare occurrences when things really get bad we will use pyrethrin, Bacillus thuringiensis, and Spinosad all which are Organic approved.
